We continue the hard ascent and in a little while the uphill relaxes and we see in front of us one of the most beautiful images of the Greek mountains. The Drakolimni of Tymfi. We lie down on the soft grass, exhausted , to rest for a while, before we start the strolling, since we all want to explore the place. The big cliff on the east side overlooking the whole gorge of Aoos, the almost permanent small glacier on the south side, the stunning view of the summits, the small flowers in the meadow that surrounds the lake, are images that do not easily leave the mind.

The road is smooth, without difficulties, it leads us closer to our destination. Walking slowly, in about an hour, we see the small clearing that is our goal. A little higher than street level with the small wooden cabin on the edge, the gazebo with the grill in the middle, the small slide and the wooden benches, is like a picture from a magazine.
SHORT DESCRIPTION Mount Olympus, the mountain of the gods. It is the highest mountain in Greece and a paradise for Greek an international climbers and nature lovers. Known worldwide for […]
With great caution we pass over the rocks (there is a signal on the rock from where we have to start) going to the opposite bank. The path is clear and shows us its intensions from the very beginning, as it is quite steep. Of course in the one and a half hour that we need to get to “Krevatia”, there are mild spots and passes but in general we gain altitude very fast. We realize this when, after about an hour, we see the banks of the stream hanging 500 meters below our feet.
The route from the refuge to the summit is relatively easy. The mountain, on this side is a stone and dry land, so the hiker has a great open view in the horizon. Besides that, the uphill is not too bad. So the climber can follow different routes for hiking, since the orientation is very easy.
Since our first visit to the mountain seven years ago, we have praised the work of the Forestry Dept of Goumenissa and will do so again because of the very good marking and maintenance of the trail and the very good maintenance and aesthetics of the wooden structures (cabins, benches etc).
Nothing of whatever we are trying to write, can describe the picture of what we see. The clearness and the sunshine allow us to gaze as far as the eye can see, while beneath us the refuge is like looking it from an airplane.
