With great caution we pass over the rocks (there is a signal on the rock from where we have to start) going to the opposite bank. The path is clear and shows us its intensions from the very beginning, as it is quite steep. Of course in the one and a half hour that we need to get to “Krevatia”, there are mild spots and passes but in general we gain altitude very fast. We realize this when, after about an hour, we see the banks of the stream hanging 500 meters below our feet.
The route from the refuge to the summit is relatively easy. The mountain, on this side is a stone and dry land, so the hiker has a great open view in the horizon. Besides that, the uphill is not too bad. So the climber can follow different routes for hiking, since the orientation is very easy.
Since our first visit to the mountain seven years ago, we have praised the work of the Forestry Dept of Goumenissa and will do so again because of the very good marking and maintenance of the trail and the very good maintenance and aesthetics of the wooden structures (cabins, benches etc).
Nothing of whatever we are trying to write, can describe the picture of what we see. The clearness and the sunshine allow us to gaze as far as the eye can see, while beneath us the refuge is like looking it from an airplane.
What a great scenery. The plateau is narrow, lying at the bottom of the summit and at its edge, a beautiful two-floor stone building with all the modern comforts and a spectacular view of Chatzipetros summit to the east and the mountains of South Pindos to the west.
After another two hours and a painful and ruthless climb, we are coming out of the forest. There is no path anymore but there is no orientation problem either. In front of us, there is the last steep uphill that will bring us to the summit. At last, we have arrived and it was worth every step. The view is astonishing. In front of us are, the “Papa” stream and the high peaks of the mountain of gods, Profitis Elias, Touba, Stefani, Christakis. On the other side, we are gazing at Pieria Mountains, Vrodou, the beaches of Katerini, Thermaikos Gulf and Halkidiki.

The route is an easy ascent and does not have any technical difficulty. Note that even if it is April, half of the route was in snowy terrain. This justifies the duration times in route information section.Outside the refuge, a good mountaineering path begins and for about 900 meters it moves north between an amazing pine and beech forest.
